For the months of June/July/August we have selected LSU Legend George Ellwood “Doc” Fenton to be in our All-Star Player Spotlight.

George Ellwood “Doc” Fenton was born April 30th, 1887 in Scranton, PA where he played High School ball.

Doc had a six year playing career 1904-1906 at Mansfield University and at LSU from 1907-1909. Doc played multiple positions but is most well known for his QB role. He scored 132 points in 1908, 59 points in 1909. For his three years at LSU he totaled 298 points. This included 36 touchdowns. His longest field goal was 45 yards. Mansfield had a 16-3-1 record in his time, LSU was 23-5 for his three years. After finishing at Louisiana State, he coached two years, then entered the oil business in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Doc Fenton died February 8, 1968, in Baton Rouge. He was elected to the LSU Hall of Fame in 1937 and to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1971.

Other Notes *

- Sports writers called him “The Blonde Terror” while his friends called him “doc”

- Edgard Wingar (the head coach at the time) personally went to Docs home to recruit him

- Doc was part of the first US team to play football on away from the north american continent (where lsu beat the cubans 58-0)
